Our History
On that day, the Parliamentarians, Covenanters and Royalists gathered their full strength on Marston Moor, only 6 miles from here. Towards the evening the Covenanters and Parliamentarians launched a surprise attack on the Royalist forces and following a confused fight lasting two hours the Parliamentarian Cavalry under Oliver Cromwell routed the Royalist Cavalry from the field and with Levens infantry, annihilated the remaining Royalist infantry, resulting in the Royalists effectively abandoning Northern England.
